Homemade Sweets

Dessert is my favorite topic when it comes to food.  I’ve been baking for nearly 40 years – serving not only my family, but multitudes of friends and customers of my baking business.  A homemade treat is a gift of love for sure.  After all, who doesn’t like a little something sweet at the end of a meal?  Or for no reason at all!  Dessert should be both beautiful and delicious.  It should appeal to your visual sense, and the smell should be nothing less than heavenly!   This is my goal when I create my amazing cakes, cupcakes, tarts, and more decadent sweet treats.   Dessert is made for sharing.  I invite you to try these recipes, and create your own precious memories!

Vanilla/Vanilla Bean Cupcakes

This cupcake combination is my all-time fav. Tender, moist vanilla cake, with a vanilla bean buttercream frosting. And don’t forget the sprinkles! It’s important to serve these and other cupcakes made with butter – at room temp. The butter firms up when refrigerated. You will need to store them covered […]

Painted Balloon Cake

I first saw this cake design done on a fondant cake. The fondant surface does lend itself to a smooth backdrop for painting a cake with food coloring. However, as most of you know, I’m not a fondant fan. So I grabbed the challenge to make my version of this […]

Chocolate Banana Cream Tart

This tart combines an oatmeal cookie crust, with almond pastry cream, sliced fresh bananas, toasted almonds, and a chocolate drizzle. YUMM! Oh WAIT! I also piped on a ruffled ring of mascarpone whipped topping, and some grated chocolate. NOW YUMM! The fresh bananas will require this tart to be served […]

Birthday Cheesecake Cake

Such a simple design, made for a very special birthday cake! Inside of this beauty, is a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake (see my prior post), with layers of fresh raspberry puree, whipped mascarpone cream, and 2 more layers of vanilla cake. It is frosted with a smooth layer of light […]

Chocolate Whoopie Pies

How fun are these! When I was growing up, my Mom would occasionally make a version of the “Devil Dog”. It tasted very much like the Drake’s hot dog-shaped chocolate cake, with a creamy white filling in the middle (a common addition to our lunch bag)!! Leave it to my […]

Painted Cake

I’ve been thinking about this one for a while now. A painted cake – the idea would incorporate my love of baking, AND my talent for art. I spent all of my spare time in high school in the “art room” – drawing, painting, silk screening, sculpting… you name it. […]

Red Velvet Cupcakes

These cupcakes were the product of a baking project when my grand daughter spent the weekend with me. 6 yr old Natalie loves to bake with me, so I thought a red velvet cupcake with a cheesecake filling, and whipped cream topping would be perfect. And lets not forget the […]

Peach and Berry Cobbler

A cobbler is the perfect answer to leftover fruit in the frig. Today, I had about 7 peaches, and some blueberries and raspberries to work with. Perfect for this Peach and Berry Cobbler! A super-delicious comfort food for sure! It took about 20 minutes to prepare, and an hour to […]

Sprinkle/Drip Cake

This cake combines both my passion for baking AND my artistic talent. I started drawing and painting at a young age, and started my college education as an art major at UCONN College. I’ve never really lost that creative side of me, and love to incorporate it into my baking […]

Cherry Cheese Strudel

This has to be the easiest, yet most impressive idea for a quick breakfast danish. There are just 3 primary ingredients – frozen puff pastry, canned cherry pie filling, and a quick mixture of cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and egg. Once assembled, this makes 2 strudels that bake in just […]
