Chocolate Cable Knit Cake

This 3 layer, 8″ chocolate cake, with a chocolate whipped cream filling, proves that you can take a simple idea, and elevate it to something very special indeed~! The design resembles a cable knit sweater, and is not as difficult to create as it may look. I frosted the cake very smooth, then marked the evenly spaced perpendicular lines around the sides of the cake – using a straight edge – gently pressed into the frosting. I didn’t “measure”, and I didn’t actually “level” my design marks, but rather relied on my eye and artistic intuition as to how I wanted to space my design. Then I used 3 different piping tips to create the “sweater” design. The best way to decorate around this cake, is to take a seat so you are at eye-level.

I practiced my piping lines on a piece of parchment paper first, as I wanted to confirm the design size/texture before actually applying it to the cake.

Here it is – a most impressive cake!
